“Robin’s love for vintage comes through in her attention to detail and her desire to create looks that are beautiful and one of a kind”.   Penelope

Here’s the truth -

We all love our planet right?
And we want to do our best by not contributing to the landfill.
And we still want to be fashionable!

The problem is…

We get sucked into buying fast fashion because it’s easy and inexpensive.

We want to support sustainable practices without being boring, bland or crafty

We don’t know where to find unique fashionable clothes that are eco-friendly

Recaptured Vintage Designs are created with you in mind.

Imagine walking into a room and all eyes are on you because you are wearing a unique fashion statement piece that no one else will ever have

Wearable Art for women who refuse to blend in

Hi, I’m Robin and I've been collecting vintage since the “back to the earth” movement of the 70's. I developed a deep-rooted belief in reusing and reimagining what we already have—long before fast fashion became the problem that people are talking about now.

But I don’t just sell vintage. I rescue and re-imagine vintage clothing and textiles and create one of a kind works of art. My work helps women wear something truly unique—without adding to the landfill.

Something to know about me is that I was born on Halloween. I was BORN in costume.  So you need to know that If you ever invite me to brunch I will be the most over dressed person at the table.

“Robin's creativity and care in her work is unparalleled. I can honestly say that she is a pleasure to work with, and is absolutely professional, communicative, and talented!!!”   Ariel

You are my fashionista sister if you ...

4. Appreciate craftsmanship of days gone by

“I’ve known Robin since before she started Recapture Designs. I’m a vintage fanatic so I’ve always turned to her when I’m stepping out. Robin has “dressed” me for soirees, weddings, even costume parties putting together the perfect look. You can always count on her to be the “best dressed”- whatever the occasion. I love when she mixes her own designs with vintage or modern pieces creating a look that turns heads”   Cathy

FAQ

How did you get started with redesigning clothes?

It started with a damaged lace dress that I found in a thrift store dollar bin. But it actually wasn't until I needed a wedding dress many years later. Because I was a vintage hound I scoured all the local vintage and thrift stores to no avail. That beautiful lace from the dollar bin kept calling me. So after a bit of reconstruction and many hours of repairing the lace it became my wedding dress. After that I opened a vintage bridal shop where I helped brides redesign vintage wedding gowns.

Where do you find your treasures?

I’ve been collecting vintage since the 70’s when I was a poor college student (showing my age here).  I loved finding 40’s jackets to pair with my jeans. (That was basically dressing up back  in the day). I once bought a box of old blankets at an auction only to discover that it held a treasure trove of vintage dresses, gloves and lingerie. I was hooked! Since then I wouldn’t pass by a thrift store or garage sale no matter who was in the car with me. Needless to say, after all those years of collecting I could open my own auction house!

What inspires you?

I’ve always had a passion for vintage textiles. I have an appreciation for the craft and handiwork that goes into making the table runners and dresser scarves  that are no longer used. I collected them to preserve them and work them into something new that could be appreciated today.  My inspiration comes from the damaged pieces that would normally be thrown out. I love the challenge of thinking of creative ways to make them wearable.
The same goes for vintage clothes. I love finding ways to make it my own.

Do you take commissions?

Commissions are a bit difficult due to the nature of the materials I work with. Everything is found as is and one of a kind. so it's impossible to duplicate anything. However, I am considering the idea of taking commissions for the hand painted bridal skirts. I currently rescue skirts from old bridal gowns. But if you have a gown or skirt that you wanted painted let me know!

What’s the craziest thing you ever wore?

I once wore a 1950’s coat inside out (that lining was killer!). I was on a date with my then boyfriend. He still married me. I knew then he was a keeper!

Do you watch Project Runway?

I’m obsessed with Project Runway! (can we please bring Tim Gunn back and let Heidi go? I’m sorry Heidi. It’s time). And don’t get me started on Law Roach!
